I stepped onto the ceremony site last weekend in Ohio and I immediately knew that this wedding was going to be perfect. Then I met all of Erika and Galen’s family and felt like I had known them for years. Everything and everyone on this day was just….perfect. I find it so beautiful when couples can incorporate things into their wedding that directly express their values, their personalities, and the uniqueness of their relationship. Everything about Galen and Erika’s wedding made me want to be in their family, or even just be their friends! The ceremony was in a beautiful field next to the family home with old Amish church pews and wild flowers everywhere. The reception took place in an immaculate barn complete with chandeliers and personal touches that made me “oooooo” and “aaaaahhh” every where I turned. There were so many amazing people that I met and so many memories made at this wedding and I was just the photographer! The groomsmen rode in on a tractor (to the bride’s surprise). The family dog got to walk down the aisle. The Best Man pulled the wedding rings out of box dug under the ground. Galen had a stool hidden when it came time for the first kiss. They served delicious home-made food and the best ice cream in all of Ohio (I think the world). Grandpa sang for the first dance. A hometown band (Honeytown) entertained for hours. Playing a recognizable tune on an accordion was the only way to get the couple to kiss. Erika and Galen made their wedding cake together. And the happy couple left to the sound of kazoos and cans crashing together tied behind their getaway car (a beautiful red mini coop I might add).
Not only did I have the pleasure of capturing such memories, I lived them.
And I don’t think I will ever forget them.
Erika, Galen, and family: thank you for allowing me to step into your world for a day. I loved every second of it.
